Notes. As with any written route description it is recommended that it is always backed up by a map. Wander from the route description and you may be lost.  Suggested Peak District maps are Outdoor Leisure map 24 - The Peak District White Peak Area and Outdoor Leisure map 1 - The Peak District Dark Peak Area. These are excellent 1:25000 maps and will show all the detail required. It's also worth carrying a compass and knowing a bit about how to use it. Wear suitable footwear, sturdy trainers may well be OK in dry summer weather but boots will be required in winter. Always carry some sort of waterproof, a lightweight one makes and excellent wind shell even in the dry, and carry some spare clothing, a lightweight fleece can be ideal. In the winter, carry a headtorch, maps are hard to read in the dark. Times given are typical walking times and do not allow for refreshment stops. Bad weather can extend these times considerably so be aware of possible short cuts. Enjoy.

Altitude and distance figures are obtained from Satmap 10 and Satmap 20 GPS. These kinds of data are subject to sampling rate errors. The shorter the sampling rate the more detail is included in the calculation. Distances seem about right but altitude gain calculation are always higher than those given on my altimeter watch which relies on air pressure changes.
